Scania premières at IAA 2010:

The new R-series, the associated improvements on the P- and G-series and the new V8 truck range will all feature on the Scania stand, as well as the new Scania Touring coach and the low-floor city bus, Scania OmniCity. On display will also be a range of components showing state-of-the-art technology unique to Scania, including the new high-output V8 platform and a new range of 9.3-litre gas engines. Evidenced throughout the stand will be the wide variety of services that can be tailored to suit each and every application and customer preference, including rental vehicles for construction as well as long-haulage.

The new R-series makes its debut with all the innovations that took truck produc­ti­vity and comfort to a new level. Technological enhancements include the new much appreciated Scania Opticruise automated gearchanging sys­tem. Scania Driver Sup­port provides on-board assistance for drivers eager to hone their driv­ing skills to per­fection, while squeezing the most out of every drop of fuel. New inte­rior fittings bring fit and finish to a new level and the innovative pull-out bed offers up to 900 mm of luxury accom­mo­da­tion. Many of these new items are available on the P- and G-series as well. P-, G- and R-series trucks are all represented on the stand.

 

These and other technical improvements, along with the new creature comforts that enhance driver appeal, all serve to support the driver and promote more efficient driving. This will contribute to lower fuel costs, higher safety, better uptime, lower operating cost and maximum profitability for the operator.

 

Scania's new V8 truck range features unique styling traits and numerous options exclusive to Scania V8 trucks. Topping the range is the remarkable R 730 with the new 16.4-litre V8 with 730 hp, 3,500 Nm and stunning performance. The 500, 560 and 620 hp engines remain based on the 15.6-litre V8 plat­form. Two V8 tractor units will be shown: R 500 and R 730.

 

The Bauma exhibition was the first public outing for Scania's extended construction range and the new Scania R 730 heavy-haulage tractor unit gained a great deal of attention. Other news include reinforced transmission com­po­nents, new hub reduc­tion and progressive parabolic springs, as well as a combined traction pa­nel on the dashboard for convenient difflock operation and traction control. At Bauma, the light­weight 8x4 mixer, lightest on the market, the 10x4 mining truck with a 66-tonne GVW and 46-tonne payload capacity, and the rental tipper offered on the German market all demonstrated the breadth of Scania's offer. At the IAA you will find a G 480 8x4 tipper offered complete with bodywork to prove the point.

 

A brand new model in the ScaniaTouring coach range is the 3-axle Scania Touring HD 13.7 m with 440 hp, 2,300 Nm and Scania Opticruise. The Scania Touring is built in partnership with Chinese bodybuilder Higer and the 2-axle version generated a great deal of interest at Busworld in Kortrijk. Full parts and service support is provi­ded by the global Scania organisation. Also on display is the stylish low-floor ScaniaOmniCity with 280 hp 5-cylinder engine and adjustable dash­board adapted to the VDV recommendations.

 

Scania's lead in powertrain technology is amply evidenced with all engine ranges and configurations on display. Adja­cent to the new R 730 truck is the new 16.4-litre V8 engine and reinforced over­drive gearbox with Scania Opticruise and Retarder. Scania's new common-rail engine platform with several innovative solutions paves the way for the technologies used for Euro 6.

 

Brand new are the 9.3-litre 270 and 310 hp gas en­gines now available on trucks as well as buses. The engines, which comply with EEV, are based on the latest Euro 5 EGR engine platform. Compact installation with eight chassis-mounted com­po­site gas tanks and a capacity of 640 litres on trucks. Roof-mounted aluminium tanks with a capacity of 1,200 litres on buses. The engine displays also include Scania's highly effi­cient ethanol engine that operates according to the diesel principle.

 

Alternative and renewable fuelsfeature strongly on the stand. Scania diesel en­gines are compatible with up to 100% biodiesel, which is a viable alternative for all types of operation. For urban conditions, Scania has two strong renewable offers: ethanol gives the convenience of a liquid fuel; the new gas engine can operate on biogas as well as CNG (compressed natural gas).

 

All vehicles displayed are linked to a customised service package that illustrates how Scania partners with its customers to work out the most profitable solution with the best possible operating economy for each individual transport application. The ser­vices include Scania's rental truck scheme, which in Germany and Austria com­pri­ses tractors and semitrailers, and in Germany also a range of 3- and 4-axle tippers.

 

New fleet management products provide monitoring and analysis tools for vehicle and driver performance, as well as an environmental report, making it easy for operators to continuously keep track of how the business is developing.
